Lining epithelium of the ureter of a pigeon (HE)
The lining epithelium of the ureter is a pseudo stratified columnar epithelium with two types of cells: basal cuboidal cells and columnar cells with apical vacuoles filled with mucopolysaccharides. The produced mucus may play a role in binding (precipitated uric) acid, that birds produce instead of urea.
