The entire pecten is covered by a thin membrane, the vitreo-pecteneal limiting membrane, which is continuous with the inner limiting membrane of the retina and seperates the pecten from the vitreous body. SEM-studies have demonstrated that this membrane is composed of two different layers with specialized vitreous body cells, the hyalocytes, attached to it.
Above, this membrane can be seen where it ‘covers’ the bridge of the pecten.
