The hypophysis or pituitary gland (glandula pituitaria) is located at the base of the diencephalon where it lies within the fossa hypophysialis of the sella turcica on the floor of the cranial cavity.
The pituitary gland can be divided in a glandular part, the adenohypophysis, and a neural part, the neurohypophysis. (see next pictures).
