Pecten oculi

Transverse section of the pecten oculi of a pigeon (HE): fold (3)
On a light microscopic section, a pectineal fold does not have an equal thickness from base to apex. Bigger blood vessels can pile out and although the capillaries generally are arranged in two layers, they occasionally anastomose to form a bulging ampulla.
