Detail of the neural lobe of the pituitary gland of a pigeon (HE)
The wall of the neural lobe that surrounds the lumina consists of the same layers as the median eminence and infundibular stalk: an ependymal layer, a fiber layer and a glandular layer. The neural lobe is strongly vascularized and is characterized not only by a superficial plexus as the median eminence but also comprises a deep lying capillary network spread throughout the tissue.
