Lens of a chicken embryo: detail (1)
The avian lens is composed of a lens body (corpus centrale lentis) and an annular pad (pulvinus annularis lentis) or ringwulst that forms a ring around the equator of the body adjacent to where the ciliary processes attach. Lens body and annular pad are separated by a fluid filled chamber (vesicula lentis), which is a remnant of the optic vesicle.
